hardwood floor cleanerQUESTION: My husband brought home a Scotch Brite hardwood floor cleaner that claims to be "gentle a vinegar and water yet more effective?" Ingredient is chlorallyl methanamine chloride w/skin and eye warnings. Are you familiar w/it? I did try it, reminds me of Pledge in the 60's-70's.
Thank you! POSTED BY SADIE :: HAWAII USA :: 09/28/2009 10:51 AM DEBRA'S ANSWER:
Chlorallyl methanamine chloride is formaldehyde. Debra :-)
COMMENTS: All you need to use on your hard wood floors is 5% white distilled vinegar...& NOTHING else..I have MCS and I have hard wood flooring all over my entire house except for ceramic tile in the kitchen...my ONLY cleaning products are vinegar, baking soda, and bonami...nothing more...to do floors, tubs, sinks, dishes, clothes, so save your $$ and be non toxic...use only vinegar..on your floors ..it does a wonderful job. Thank you, that is what I have been using. I did ruin a Hoovermate floor cleaner by leaving my dilute vinegar solution in, so I'm careful with my HE Washer by only doing a vinegar rinse in the early cycles. POSTED BY SADIE YOUNG :: HAWAII USA :: 10/02/2009 2:32 PM
Are you using vinegar on prefinished polyurethaned floors? I have old prefinished ranc plank Bruce floors that have been waxed over the years with Lundmarks wax containing solvents. Any moisture turns them lighter and picks up the stain. I am thinking of just washing them and letting then lose their color, altho there are also dark color stains that have been applied (trade secret) and stain from old dog urine. I have MCS and can't tolerate laying new floors and picking up the old ones. I also have fibromyalgia so I can't leave the house while the work is done.
