Kid-Safe Chemicals Act

Kid-safeChemicalsActI want to tell you all about the Kid-Safe Chemicals Act (KSCA). It's an update and strengthening of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

Environmental Working Group has been promoting this upcoming legislation and I have decided to lend my support.

This legislation will significantly strengthen regulations that govern toxic chemicals in consumer products. Under the current federal--the Toxic Substances Control Act--chemicals are allowed on the market with virtually no safety testing and EPA has almost no powers to protect public health. The Kid-Safe Chemicals Act requires that all chemicals be proven safe for children before they can be sold.

But this is not just about protecting kids. Requiring that all chemicals used in products be safe for kids also makes them safe for adults by a wide margin.

Supporting this legislation is something we all can do to reduce everyone's exposure to toxic chemicals.
