Dear Friends,

Season's Greetings!

This week I've added some files to my Wisdom of Life website about celebrating Winter Solstice. In addition to celebrating Christmas with my family and friends, I also celebrate Winter Solstice as a means of aligning myself with the yearly cycles of nature. In time past, Winter Solstice was celebrated by cultures around the world as the most important day of the year, for it marked the return of longer days, and with them the light and warmth of the sun that renewed all life.

Rather than adopt a specific traditional celebration, I've used the common themes of Winter Solstice celebrations to create a celebration, rooted in my own time and place.

* Holidays and Seasonal Celebrations explains how to create a seasonal celebration
* Solstices and Equinoxes tells how these points of the year are reckoned
* Winter Solstice gives the meaning of the season and ideas for celebrating
* Making a Solstice Wreath contains my experiences making solstice wreaths, instructions for making your own, and pictures of the wreath I made over the weekend.

I thought you also would be interested in the new Ecological Calendar published by Pomogranate Press. Finally, a calendar that orients us to the natural world! Instead of a page for each month, this calendar comes in four panels--one for each season. Beautiful graphics show a panorama of life changes throughout the year, including seasonally visible stars, moon phases, tides, ratios of darkness to light, and more. Days have been renamed according to the season, which are listed alongside our standard Gregorian calendar. Printed on recycled paper with soy-based ink, of course. See The Ecological Calendar at amazon.com.

I have a lot of material to add to this website and look forward to sharing more wisdom about nature and spirit with you in the coming year.

Debra :-)
