This week I've been thinking about how tradition is such a big part of the holidays. I realized that tradition not only warms our hearts, it's good for the earth too--it's a form of recycling! Year after year we bring out the ornaments we've collected for the tree, prepare the same treasured recipes...While we might do it with a new twist, we like that familiarity. It can be a joy to recycle! Since we're all busy preparing for and celebrating the holidays, I'm going to keep this newsletter short today and just give you a couple of articles on reconnecting with Nature on the Winter Solstice, and the new questions and comment on my Green Living Q&A blog. WINTER SOLSTICE We put so much attention throughout the year on the things we need for our own human survival, that I just want to take a few moments to honor and remember that every product we buy and use comes from nature, and our own physical survival depends on nature in every way. The Winter Solstice is one of the oldest human celebrations on Earth, as it marks the point of time when one cycle of life ends and the new cycle begins. * Air Duct Cleaning toxic windows We are having a difficult time finding safe windows for our house. We put new windows in my sons bedroom and we are no longer able to go near that room. I called Jeldwin and asked for the material saftey sheet and sure enough they were vaccum sealed to the core with insecticide fungicide and 4 proprietary solvents.Our temporary Solution is sealing the window with aluminum foil.This leaves the room very dark and still with aslight odor although with an air filter the room it is habitable for short periods of time. We need to find windows that do not contain chemicals or materials that outgas and make us sick. BAF Pesticide Residues in Brewed Coffee You said that roasted coffee beans contain pesticides, but I'm not finding anything that verifies that. I'm finding plenty that suggests the coffee fields and outer plants are full of pesticides but, as I understand it, the bean itself is then soaked, fermented, dried, and roasted. Although it's clear that the pesticides are harmful to the workers and environment, I'm not finding harm via pesticides from drinking it. Do you know any studies?
